Will They Ever Give Us a Damn Sequel?

Will they finally give us a remake that ain't just a rumor?

Why not a Leroy vs LaRusso Cobra Kai reboot type deal?

What About a Shogun Origin Story as a Prequel?

Why don't they just do SOMETHING?

Good news is -- ain't no 'THEY' anymore...

There is only US...

Some Answers

One reason there’s been no sequel because neither I, nor Michael Schultz were ever asked if we might have any ideas.  While I took back the US rights in June, 2020, there can be NO film or television sequel or remake at this time because Sony still holds enough of the foreign film and TV rights to prevent us from moving forward in those areas without handing total ownership of the project back to them.  We have received ZERO participation in the financial success of the original film.  They offered the same ZERO again.  We want to break this cycle of exploitation and sole corporate control of iconic cultural touchstones and canons generated especially within the creative community of color.

Using the rights I DO hold, I’ve decided to move forward with a major expansion of the little dream of a story I began writing on my fire escape and front stoop back in 1983.  No one that’s worked so hard to support my bringing this into existence has taken or received any payment for this.  Why would we do this?  Simple, just like you…

We ALL want to know what happens NEXT in this crazy story.

Volume One: Enter the Dragonverse

New York City, 1972-1978

Graffiti splashed subway cars, turntables scratching out the early rhythms of hip hop, Nicky Barnes ruling the streets, the kung fu craze hitting America where an entire generation had lost its collective mind in the thrall of Bruce Lee bursting into the consciousness of pop culture.
Long before he’d become known as the Shogun of Harlem, Jay Jefferson, along with a group of other young, charismatically scrappy street-smart New Yorkers navigate life, love, and teenage dreams on the mean streets of Harlem, Chinatown, Hell’s Kitchen, dojo wars, the wild ‘Jungle Kung Fu Tournaments’ at Madison Square Garden.
As each of them face life or death choices in this epic urban wuxia fantasy, their paths will cross, an unexpected twist of fate intervenes that will change their destinies forever.  They have been chosen for something far greater than themselves —and by the end of Volume One, it will have become clear that Leroy Green was definitely not the only Dragon in town.
